"Last week's Tuesday when I was in my office, filled with people talking business, doing their jobs, having tea and chit-chatting. All of these people were around me yet I felt so isolated from everyone else like I was in a desolate wasteland. Where there is no meaning or purpose to anything. All these thoughts and feelings lead me to finally realize that I need help. So I decided to come here and take the help I need", said Vikram to his psychologist Dr Jagjit, "Excellent choice Mr Vikram you know the hardest part of dealing with these kinds of problem is to admit that yes I have a problem so trust me when I say this you have won half the battle and for the rest half I am going to help you", Jagjit replied. "Thanks, I appreciate that", said Vikram with a hint of a smile on his face. Jagjit takes a small book and pen in his hand and says, "Your welcome after all this is my job so firstly tell me something about yourself your full name, your profession anything that would help us break the ice". Vikram replies, "Sure my name is Vikram Chauhan and I work as a Database administrator in a small IT company and to be honest I have never liked that job because of how mediocre the job is but for some reason, I can't convince myself to leave this job because without it there is no other source of income for me and I have my parents to take care".
Jagjit asked, "So other than your parent who else are in your family ?". "No one else really I had a wife but we had a divorce last month, so I live alone since my parents live in Pune and to be honest ever since our divorce, my dissatisfaction with my life has only grown", said Vikram with a saddened face and without making any eye contact with Jagjit. "Ohh I am so sorry about that but can you tell me more about your marriage and hoe you felt after the divorce ?", said Jagjit with a bit of a concern on his face. With a sigh, Vikram said, "well to put it simply it was dysfunctional even though we both liked each other and respected each other, we were not compatible. she had her own aspiration with they never lined up with and due to constant bickering and a few big fights we decided to pull the plug and separate for good. For how I felt after the divorce, I obviously felt terrible. we both separated after 5 years of marriage and it devastated me it felt like I have failed in important part life. Even at work, I am not able to focus because of all these negative thoughts like I am not worthy of happiness, I am going to die alone doing this mediocre job and many more. But in the end, I haven't told this to anybody because I know nobody cares because everyone has their own problems to deal with so in office or anywhere I go, I pretend like I am ok and pretend that I am happy. It's like I am wearing a mask, A happy mask to hide what I truly feel".
At that moment Vikram breaks down in tears, letting every emotion to come out for the first time. For him, this was a release that he needed. Jagjit consoles him offering him a glass of water and Vikram drinks that glass of water and wipes his tears. "It was good that let all of those feeling out usually many of my patients doesn't tell me all of these things that easily. I am proud of you Vikram that you showed the bravery to be vulnerable in front of a stranger. Now, with everything that you have said in this session I want to say a few things. firstly, you have to stop suppressing your emotions there must be people in your life who would love to help you out, your parents, close friends anyone willing to listen to you will help you just have to reach out to them. Secondly, there might be more problems below the surface but we will tackle them one by one and after all healing and self-love takes time and I am here to help you with that. Now, go home and talk to someone first we will go deeper in coming sessions and help you heal yourself because believe it or not you still deserve to be happy", said Jagjit. With a reassuring smile, Vikram thanks Jagjit and goes home and immediately calls someone. *phone ringing* Someone receives the call, "Hello Vikram how are you haven't called since yesterday what happened are you fine ?". Vikram collects every ounce courage that he has and says, "Hello mom umm.....I want to talk to you about something".
